“DEMS, SHUT THE DOOR”OR IS IT TOO LATE?
Oh, my God, is he going to talk about the border? NO!!!
WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR PARENT’S AND GRANDPARENT’S PARTY
The Democratic party of the 50’s and 60’s - here are some facts and perspective from my experience growing up. The Democratic base was focused on a “New Frontier/Big Banner” idea. Social programs (not socialism), investing in education and promoting civil rights was a main theme. The time period shortly after World War II, both the Republican and Democratic party felt strongly about Anti-Communism, domestically and especially globally. It would also be fair to say that they were anti socialists (because of the Cold War atmosphere, shortly after World War II, socialism was feared to be the first step in moving toward Communism). The party was also very much in favor of expanding opportunities and protecting Capitalism. There was little if any talk of replacing Capitalism.
The Dem’s were also known as being big supporters of the working class, mostly blue collar workers and strong Union support.
CIVIL RIGHTS (FACT OR FICTION)
Here are some facts that you never hear about - famously the Democrats take credit for the passing of the landmark 1964 Civil Rights Act Bill. But, did you know that if it wasn’t for the Republican party the act would never have passed. The House is made up of 435 members of Congress. The Democrats were in full majority control with 250 Democratic house members, while the Republicans only represented 185. There was Bi-Partisan support in writing the bill, led by the Democrats. But, when it came to the floor for the final vote and although the Democrats controlled 250 seats, 91 Democrats voted against it and only 153 for it. There were 6 Democrats that either weren’t there or abstained from the vote. Factually, only 63% of the Democratic party supported the Civil Rights Act and with those numbers the bill could not be passed by the majority.
However, with the overwhelming Bi-Partisan support by the Republicans, of their 185 members of Congress, 136 voted for the Bill and only 35 voted against it. That is 75% of the Republican party voted in favor of the Bill. It is even more telling when put to vote and approved by the Senate. There were 100 members of the Senate, 27 of the 33 Republican senators voted for it, an overwhelming majority of 81%, however of the 67 Democratic senators only 46 voted for it and 21 voted against it with 68% support.
These numbers came from the Congressional Historical Records. A permanent record for the history of Congress. Facts you might not have known. I use this example of the voting record by the Democrat’s in the 1964 Civil Rights Act, to show what a broad base the Democrat’s were reaching and accepting. Even at that time there was a large percentage of the party that disagreed with each other and didn’t want the same things. This is where I believe the door started to open wider.
During John F Kennedy’s inaugural speech, he, the leader of the Democratic party, famously said and was often quoted “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”. Is that quote indicative of the Democratic party today?
DEMOCRATIC PARTY FROM 1965 TO 1995
In the late 60’s and the 70’s, the Democrat’s started opening the door even wider. As the Republicans were winning elections from 1968 until Jimmy Carter in 1976, the leaders of the Democratic party felt that they needed to expand the base. There was even a metaphor that described what they were doing, known as “Big Tent”. They included an even larger range of viewpoints and ideologies and they even believed that these perspectives and differences could co-exist. At that time, the majority of the base of the party were right leaning “Blue Dogs”(metaphor created in the early 90’s), “Centrists/moderates” who were older and held more traditional policies and ideologies and more willing to find middle ground in a bi-partisan approach with the Republicans and at that time there was a fast growing faction of left leaning Democrats who described themselves as “Leftists/Liberals”. The Leftists/Liberals were growing in stature and becoming a larger part of the party.
Over the last 25 years (21st century), the party has expanded from just left and liberal leaning views to more of a progressive/far left base. Today the house members of the Democratic party are made up of only a handful of Blue Dogs/right leaning, a larger percentage of now Liberal/left leaning and over 1/2 of the party would be considered Progressive/far left. Those Progressive/far left are looking for bigger transformative reforms, but more cultural such as Universal Healthcare, Climate reforms, Green New Deal along with the global initiatives that go with it and more of a world order.
Just in the last couple weeks, I would like to show an example of where a growing part of the party is leaning.
Ten or eleven days ago, as to voting on a resolution to pass a bill in Charlie Kirk’s name against political violence, the five main parts of the bill were:
It condemned Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
It commended law enforcement.
It expressed condolences to the Kirk family
It honored Kirk’s dedication to discourse.
It calls to reject political violence.
The house resolution passed but there were 58 progressive Democrats who voted against the bill, 38 who voted present (96 total Democratic congress members against the resolution, 45%) and everyone else voted yes.
Here are a few notable names that were against the bill:
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez - NY
Jasmine Crockett - TX
Ro Kahnna - CA
Maxine Waters - CA
Rashida Talib - MI
Ilhan Omar - MN
Ayanna Pressley - MA
Al Green - TX
Jim Clyburn - SC
Here are a few names that did not vote:
Robert Garcia - CA
Nancy Pelosi - CA
Eric Swalwell - CA
As to AOC’s comment, she has a right as do the rest of us to say anything that she wants. That freedom is something that we all should cherish, as Charlie did, but I predict the following. She will be the next senator for New York in Chuck Schumer’s district. She will win that election. But, because of that video and her voting no against the resolution, she has ended any speculation of her ever winning the Presidential election.
She will receive criticism and go on to win the Senate seat that I mentioned above, for her right to speak freely and vote how she wants. Many of the things that she said were taken out of context as it concerns what Charlie said during his freedom to talk about race and other controversial subjects. Unfortunately, he won’t be able to run for public office and will not be able to defend and correct the record as he did every day and to clarify comments and debates. His voice was ended forever.
The call for violence from the left and its future leaders is undeniable.
SHUT THE DOOR
First I will give some free advice, today’s Democratic party is done as we knew it. Polls as late as this morning from Quinnepec University as of September 18th, indicated that the Democrats only have a favorable rating of 30%(lowest rate that they have had in the history of polls) and an unfavorable rating of 54%, 16% were undecided and I can assure you that the 16% has nowhere else to go except to the Republican party and we will win a portion of the unfavorables too. The Democratic “Tent” has grown too big, too wide and has moved so far to the left that it has become not just Liberal, not just Progressive, but is moving towards Radical.
Reason for the declining support/polls - too many ideologies, too extreme and in an effort to broaden your base, you let the far left progressive radicals in to maintain the votes needed to be competitive in a Two Party System. Just like the 97 votes that voted and abstained from the 1964 Civil Rights Act, they were wrong, everyone should have voted for the Civil Rights Act and the Democratic party at that time should have shut the door on them. The example that I listed above of Charlie Kirk’s resolution to end political violence represents the same thing. The door should be slammed on those who voted against it. Those who are using inflammatory rhetoric against the right/republican/conservative party such as “fascists, racists, Hitler, dictator and calling out for a war between the parties, to fight, pick up your weapons" and attaching the hyperbolic word “existential” threat, should be condemned.
A widely known author and political strategist on political trends and demographics, Ruy Teixeira, who is also famously known for his work in a Democratic leaning think tank, The Brookings Institute, advises in an article called “The Three Point Plan” for Democrats to move forward and regain a stronger coalition within the party.
1. Move more toward the center on cultural issues
2. Promote an abundance agenda
3. Embrace patriotism and liberal nationalism.
If they could do all of those things it would be a real improvement to the party brand.
SHUT THE DOOR, SLAM THE DOOR OR KICK THEM OUT!!!!!!
Let the Far Left Extremists, Far Left Progressives and the Radicals start their own party. Let them try to win on the extreme views, ideologies and beliefs that traditional Democrats are being forced to accept. Their platform would consist of the following:
1. Allowing men/boys in women/girls restrooms.
2. Abolishing Title 9 and allowing men/boys in women/girls sports.
3. Open borders (Anti-ICE violence)
4. Anti-semitic (violence)
5. DEI (quotas)
6. Transgender Debate (supporting minors receiving drugs and operations for life changing
alternative)
7. Supporting Democratic Socialist/Communism (supporting the mayoral candidate of New York
Zohran Mamdani)
8. Global Governess
9. Keep trying to convince America that sexes, male and female are interchangeable (a man
can get pregnant and menstruate)
10. Why is it acceptable that the latest Supreme Court justice appointment cannot answer the
definition of a woman?
And many other 80/20 issues.
Take back your party and own common sense, participate in bi-partisan policies. You have lost the fight against Trump the man, he is not up for re-election. What you are running against is Republicans and conservatives that have offered policies and solutions to the open border, solutions to the high interest rates, lowest gas prices in the past 4 years, wages and buying power in 9 short months has increased by $1100 annually, record stock market levels and stronger foreign policy, etc. By making this strong stand, the Democratic party separates itself from the more extreme issues, you will lose part of your base, which will effect the next couple of elections in the House and the Senate along with the next Presidential election. But, you will be able to hold true to the original ideas and platforms that the Democrats embraced. The Republicans have already begun to win over from you the working class, the 18 to 25 yr old vote and more and more of the minority vote.
Final thought - for those in the Democratic party that want to save it. You need to reject the ideas of the Far Left Radicals, who despise America and are unwilling to condemn political violence. Who refuse to use common sense to determine what is right and what is wrong and reject science. If you are unwilling to change these things within your party, then you own where your party is today and you will have to accept the responsibility and the outcome of how you will be viewed historically as a political party.
